Coolburgcity

June 2024

The interest in a trio of white chairs on Meidoornplein led me to take a deep dive into the history, residents, and dynamics of the square in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. I wanted to find out who the owners of the chairs were and what purpose they served on the square.

During my research, I learned how to connect with the neighborhood – little spoiler: it wasn’t just by ringing doorbells – and eventually, I managed to uncover the function of the white chairs. I used sidewalk chalk drawings to reveal their purpose, and in collaboration with the children from the square, we created 'Coolburcity' to bring that purpose back to life.

I documented the entire process in a publication (Methode Meidoornplein), where I also outlined guidelines on how to conduct this kind of research in a completely different setting.
